Good news, pet parents: Caring for your fur babies just got even more convenient. Walmart, one of the nation’s most popular one-stop-shop stores, is opening more in-store vet clinics and a 24-hour online pet pharmacy.

Owners of dogs, cats, horses and livestock can now order prescriptions from for home delivery; two-day shipping is free for all orders over $35. The pharmacy carries more than 300 brands of pet medication, Walmart said in a statement.

Meanwhile, on the brick-and-mortar front, Walmart said it will stock its more than 4,500 pharmacies with the 30 most requested pet prescriptions for same-day service.

Finally, CBS reports that the big-box chain will expand its line of in-store veterinary clinics to more than 100, up from the current 21 in six states.

Pet ownership is an important part of life for most older Americans — 55% of those aged 50 to 80 own a pet.

Pet ownership is an important part of life for most older Americans. The University of Michigan recently conducted a poll about pet ownership in those over 50 specifically, and found that 55% of adults aged 50 to 80 own a pet. Eighty-eight percent of those polled said their pets help them enjoy life more, and 79% said pets reduced their stress.

Now, the nation’s millions of pet owners can care for Fido and Fluffy conveniently as they handle the rest of their shopping, and have important prescriptions delivered in store or straight to their doors.

If Walmart has told us anything with this move, it’s that the company understands the importance and priority placed by so many on man’s best friend.
